Hello there, welcome to my little corner of the world wide web.
I used to have a blog over at Skeptic Ink, I still do, I just don’t publish there much. I’ve gotten away from the science and technology posts I made over there and I want to dedicate more time to my personal writing.
I can remember wanting to be a writer since I was about 14. My first science fiction story was “published” (as a homework assignment) in the 5th grade. I wrote another fiction story for our school publication in high school. But I never really had the plot concepts well defined.
I’m an expert world-builder. I love nothing more than designing universes and technology and such. But making an interesting plot, with defined characters is a challenge for me.
After several stops and starts over the intervening… cough… 30 years. I met two of my favorite authors; Steven Brust and Skyler White. They were signing and doing a reading at Dragon’s Lair. There was only a dozen or so people and we got a lot of time to talk. I think I was about ready anyway, but I finally did it.
Four months later, I had a short novel of about 63,000 words. It has a plot, character development, and a conclusion and everything.
Two things I learned, is that I really prefer writing in first person and I really enjoy writing dialogue. It sounds trite, but the characters really do drive the story.
I’m working on two other novels, one science fiction and one epic fantasy. Just novels, I’m not really into series.
I’ll start making comments about those in the new year. That’s my goal, to finish one or both of them in 2019. Ought to be an interesting ride.
